About Neyveli Home

Neyveli has been described by different people in different ways. A bright spark amidst dark, arid regions, a Mini Bharat, an oasis in a desert land etc. But, applying phrases more suited to the modern times, I prefer to see it as a hub of educated men and women. Knowledge, creativity, awareness and intellectual prosperity abound here. I have come across amazing people, people who possess diverse capabilities and those whose skills are unique and thought provoking. There are scores of thinkers and of course, writers, writers who are top notch narrators and interpreters of Life, Death and all that is between. This website is a tribute to the English writers of Neyveli, designed and created to showcase their literary skills. India has already shown the world that it is second to none in producing littérateurs of the highest order. Rabindranath Tagore, R.K. Narayan, Raja Rao, Mulk Raj Anand exemplified the spirit of Indian English Literature in the past. Today, Arundhathi Roy, Salman Rushdie and even Adiga Aravind are torch bearers of the Indian English Writing. While this is so, it is also a fact that many many talented minds of Indian English literature abound across the plains and plateaus of India - more so in small towns where lack of exposure has prevented potential best writers from getting noticed. Neyveli, in all probability, is one such town where hidden treasures are stacked away incognito.

The township of Neyveli is managed by the Department of Township Administration (TA), under the Neyveli Lignite Corporation. The TA department, comprises Water Services, Sanitary Service, Fuse Call Services (Power Manangement), Telecom and also Maintenance and Repairs. The township comes under the Kurinjipadi Legislative Constituency and Chidhambaram Reserved Parliamentary Constituency of India. Tamil Nadu Police is the law-enforcement agency in Neyveli, which includes as dedicated All-Women Police Station. Apart from the State Police services, the industrial units employ Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for maximum security.

  • Neyveli has a culture of its own.
  • The fact that all the people that live in Neyveli are not natives of the town, brings about a sense of diaspora.
  • There are cultural organizations meant to encourage different regional cultures of India, there are temples and places of worship that quite reflect the diversity of the place.
  • People who live here are either employed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC)or by the business enterprises that service those employees or NLC. Disparities in wealth is rather limited - one can consider it as a Public Sector Unit (PSU) salaried class culture.
  • High literacy rates and multilingual nature of people reflect in a culture that lays high importance for education.
  • Neyvelians are unique in their exemplary devotion to the township in general
